All the King's Men

by Robert Penn Warren

Mr. Byram B. White

Character Analysis

Byram is the State Auditor, and a somewhat pathetic character. When his plan to makes some money by exploiting his position is discovered, Willie dresses him down, but doesn't fire him. By getting a signed but undated letter of resignation from Byram, Willie can give him a second chance, but fire him if he ever steps out of line again.
