According to Sammy, Queenie is the one leading her friends on this little shopping adventure. More important, she serves as a guide for Sammy. She shows him how the simple act of dressing differently than others can serve as a protest against what she and Sammy see as unfair standards. Queenie inspires Sammy to take a stand to show everybody what he really believes in.
