Barn Burning

Barn Burning

by William Faulkner

The Aunt

Character Analysis

Sarty's aunt is his mother's sister. Her first name seems to be Lizzie, but Lizzie might be one of Sarty's sisters. It's not completely clear. In any case, she lives with the family. Except at night, she seems to stick by her sister, sharing all the duties. She shows some strength of character when she tells Lennie to release Sarty, and threatens to alert de Spain about Abner's plan to burn his barn.
