Guide Mentor

Character Role Analysis

Ilsa Hermann and Liesel Meminger

Ilsa shows Liesel a world of books, and encourages her to write one of her own. She acts as her mentor, even though she seems like the one who needs mentoring.

Lucky for her, Liesel also acts as Ilsa's guide, showing her that life can be rich and exciting, and that it's not necessary to punish herself for her son's death, which happened some two decades before.
