Brave New World

by Aldous Huxley

Analysis: Steaminess Rating

Exactly how steamy is this story?

NC-17

Oh, where to start. Women wear belts with contraceptives strapped to them, like Julia Roberts's boots in Pretty Women. Little kids play erotic games with one another. Promiscuity is law, monogamy a crime. Religious services have been replaced with drugged-out orgies, Lenina's first date with John is an interactive pornographic experience, and the entire novel culminates in a massive, violent orgy. Violence is closely linked with sex throughout the novel, in part because they're both the intense extremes of passion, and in part because John feels the need to beat himself every time he is physically attracted to Lenina. This might be the most sexual material you'll ever be asked to read in an academic setting.
