Brokeback Mountain

Brokeback Mountain

by Annie Proulx

Analysis: Steaminess Rating

Exactly how steamy is this story?

"Brokeback Mountain" doesn't pull any punches when it comes to the sex lives of its characters. We get explicit sex scenes with plenty of words you wouldn't want to repeat at the dinner table. Plus, these guys are dangerous when they go at it, to the point of creating "a gushing nosebleed on the last afternoon on the mountain when Jack, in their contortionistic grappling and wrestling, had slammed Ennis's nose hard with his knee" (145).
