Salary

Average Salary: $48,360

Expected Lifetime Earnings: $2,019,000

Concert promoter salaries are hard to pin down, because take home pay depends upon the talent being marketed, venue, advertising expenses, the overall economy, the phases of the moon, mystical talismans, and you get the picture. Concert promoters tend to average somewhere around $65k a year, with a range of $47k to as high as $77k in the New York area. Feel like setting the bar higher? Some of the big players have pulled down as much as a million. Just make sure you've got a nest egg to carry you past the dry spells.

An event promoter's salary averages out at $45,800, but depending on your employer; this could dip to $26k or soar to nearly $80k if you work for a big corporation. Unlike concert promoters, who risk audience fatigue if they book too frequently in the same area, event promoters may be more likely than concert promoters to have a regular gig, like an annual fair, sporting competition, or medical conference. Or not! (If we were a magic eightball, we would say, "Reply hazy. Please try again.")

Some promoters have been known to pad their bills, overcharging for equipment rentals, maybe, or neglecting to mention that they'll receive a $5,000 rebate for the $10,000 they spent on radio advertisements. Usually both sides fudge a little until a contract is reached. But hey, this is show business, right?
