The job opportunities for ecologists are just as good as they are for other working stiffs—that is, merely okay. But as long as buildings are being built and fires are burning them down, there will always be a need for ecologists. The best prospects belong to the folks who have the academic degrees and skills. In fact, a big growth area in the world of ecology is range management. The "rangers" are the ecologists who move in after a natural disaster has leveled an area to see how bad the damage is. It's something like being an environmental undertaker.
