Entrepreneurs are most successful when they build on their successes. The other way to survive is to know when to throw in the towel, and to keep a fallback career like Woody Harrelson did. Harrelson sold millions of his round beach towel, dubbed the “SunSpot.” But when Target and WalMart went on to sell their own round towels without impunity, Harrelson’s partners discovered you can't trademark a circle.
