This is the reason you got into the biz, and there’s nothing wrong with being a little selfish about your selflessness. You bring comfort and relief to the sick, the weary, the dying. You bring a small ray of sunshine to patients who really should have no reason to smile or think happy thoughts any longer. You deserve to feel good about what you’re doing—it is exceedingly noble and important work. Just don’t lift any of your healed patients above your head in a show of triumph. They hate that.
