Character Role Analysis

Jane Gallagher

Although we never actually see Jane on stage (meaning in direct action in the narrative), Holden is basically in love with her. His descriptions of their relationship are touching – clearly their interactions were based on mutual respect and emotion, not on the physical. So much so, in fact, that Holden has a difficult time thinking about having a sexual relationship with her at all.
