Cat's Cradle Chapter 106 Summary

What Bokononists Say When They Commit Suicide

  • Oh, and Dr. Koenigswald will be number two.
  • The doctor recounts "Papa's" final moments. The old dictator was raving about everything and even said he'd destroy the world—which is apparently something Bokononists say before they commit suicide.
  • Dr. Koenigswald goes to a basin of water to wash his hands. The water freezes around his hand, so he does what any curious fellow would do in the situation. He licks it.
  • He falls to the ground, shattering into frozen human chunks.
  • Ice-nine has made its long overdue appearance.
