Civil Rights Movement: "Black Power" Era
Bobby Hutton in Civil Rights Movement: "Black Power" Era
Bobby Hutton (1950 - 1968) was a mere 16 years old when he became the first person recruited to the Black Panther Party for Self Defense.
In April 1968, seventeen-year-old Hutton was killed in a shootout between Oakland police and members of the Black Panther Party. His death was the first for the Party and confirmed for many members the urgency of their fight against the abuse of white power.
