College Myths
You can get a great education at any American university.
I can’t afford Harvard.
If you get into Harvard, you’re set.
College is way harder than high school; if I had trouble in high school, I’ll drown in college.
I don’t know what I want to do and I need to choose a major right away.
All I need is a bachelor’s degree; there’s no point in going after any advanced degrees unless I’m going to be a doctor or lawyer.
I pulled incredible grades junior and senior year, but I blew it my first two years of high school, so it’s all over for me.
I didn’t get into one of my top tier schools; now I have to settle for Drake. Dad runs a nice plumbing business that I could just go into if I skip college; otherwise, he’s going to sell it. I guess I shouldn’t even bother with a postsecondary education.
I want to be (some kind of) artist, so there's nothing college can teach me.
