Elite university admission is a call option – it’s not a conclusion. Note that we said you’ll get lots of interviews, opportunities, meetings. But no job guarantees. And lots of students are geeks. (Sorry, geeks - just tellin’ it like it is.) They interview and sound arrogant or clueless or narrow or worse.
So… it’s May and everyone else is graduating and you don’t have a job yet. What do you do? Can a Harvard grad go flip burgers or do the business equivalent? Humiliating. Black mark. “What’s wrong with you, boy?” So there is pressure to perform well beyond the lottery ticket you get with elite college admissions. And the downside is tough to swallow. Especially with your throat already full of burgers.
