Influences on ABBA

Connecting the dots of artistic inspiration: a musical family tree
ABBA’s music was influenced by The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and The Bee Gees. In writing “Dancing Queen,” ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus claim to have been influenced most by Dr. John—especially the drums on his album Dr. John’s Gumbo—and George McCrae’s disco hit “Rock ME Baby.”

Influenced by ABBA

Elvis Costello, Madonna, Chrissie Hynde, Pete Townsend of the Who, and Katy Perry have expressly acknowledged ABBA’s influence on their work. It has also been rumored that Kurt Cobain liked ABBA.
