Mrs. Heep

Character Analysis

Mrs. Heep is Uriah Heep's devoted mother. Uriah Heep lives with her while he works as a clerk for Doctor Wickfield, and she also comes to move in with him as he becomes a partner in Mr. Wickfield's business. Like Miss Murdstone, Mrs. Heep is just like her nearest male relative (in this case, her son, not her brother). And Mrs. Heep totally lives vicariously through Uriah Heep. She is constantly encouraging Uriah Heep to keep humble and to remember that being humble is the only way to rise in this world – a lesson that Uriah Heep takes to ridiculous extremes.
