- Peter turns sixteen.
- Mr. van Daan announces that the British have landed in Tunis, Algiers, Casablanca, and Oran. Everybody is saying this is the beginning of the end, but Mr. Churchill says that it is "the end of the beginning."
- While lugging a sack of beans upstairs, Peter accidentally splits one of them and a "hailstorm" of brown beans pours down the stairs all over Anne.
- Mr. Frank isn’t sick anymore.
