Character Role Analysis
Though Windrider is the one that Moon Shadow is always physically following, Miss Whitlaw is the character that Moon Shadow, our protagonist, seems to model his behavior after. He is repeatedly impressed by her strength and open-mindedness, agreeing with Father when he calls her a superior woman. Miss Whitlaw also literally mentors Moon Shadow in reading and writing lessons for English, as well as helping him write those crucial letters to Orville Wright. She is also the model for how cross-cultural interactions don't need to be a big thing; she can even chat up Uncle Bright Star. Yep, she's that good.
