Immigrants on Orchard Street

New York's Lower East Side Tenement Museum educates about the American immigrant experience through exhibits designed around the lives of individual immigrant families who resided at 97 Orchard Street on Manhatten's Lower East Side. The excellent museum website includes a digital tour of the tenement on Orchard Street as well as lesson plans centered on physical objects and other primary source materials compiled for students at the elementary, middle and high school level. The site additionally hosts online activities such as making your own flag and folk song that aim to spark discussion about national identity and assimilation.
