Eastern Connecticut State University

About Me

Intro

I'm a quaint liberal arts college in a small city in Connecticut—as a matter of fact, I'm the only public liberal arts college in the state. But I don't slack off because of it.

I work hard to make sure my students can study all kinds of kooky stuff with me. From astronomy to the psychology of South Park, you'll definitely find something fun to do. I like to think of myself as a well-rounded place, though I typically seem to attract more people majoring in history, computer science, and new media studies.

No, that last one doesn't mean that classes consist of catching up on the latest season of The Bachelorette, but you will be able to get a great education in everything from social media to 3-D animation.

Also, I have clubs. Lots of clubs (the kinds you join, not the ones you whack people over the head with). Whether you're into politics, hiking, social justice, music, math, or ultimate Frisbee, there's a club on campus for you. I've got a niche for everyone.

One visit to me and you'll be sold. From the famous clock tower, to the beautiful green quad, to the bubbling water fountains, to the friendly faces of my students and faculty, you'll feel right at home the moment you get here.

Name

Formerly known as Sheldon the Shield. I recently got a makeover, and now I'm a more-fitting Spartan-style Warrior.

Hometown

Willimantic, Connecticut. It's a small city in the middle of a bunch of farm towns. A real breath of fresh air. Notable landmarks include the Frog Bridge and the postal-office-turned-restaurant-and-pub Willibrew.

Birthdate

1889

Body Type

Just right. I'm the smallest of the Connecticut state colleges, but don't let my size fool you. I have a little over 5,000 undergrads, and my numbers are on the rise every year.

Lately I've been bulking up and hitting the gym. The improvements are starting to show—I'm opening up a state-of-the-art fine arts, and my old arts building is being converted into brand spankin' new dorms.

Current Living Situation

90% of freshmen live on campus. I have six freshmen dorms, so people usually tend to live at least one year here. Some students choose to commute if they live close enough, though.

I've got eight upperclassmen dorms, ranging from traditional apartments with two to three people in one bedroom to more modern apartments with individual bedrooms.

Not going to lie, some people prefer to live off-campus, especially since I'm a dry-campus. No hard feelings—you gotta do what you gotta do. Many students are brave enough to rent out the wicked-old, probably-haunted, Victorian-style houses that border the school. Me? I'll stick with Laurel Hall.

Relationship Status

I stay true to my State School Siblings: WestConn, Southern, and Central.

I must admit that I have an unofficial rivalry with the University of Connecticut, which is only twenty minutes down the road. We're polar opposites—UConn does everything bigger (more students, more square feet, and larger class sizes), while I prefer to stay more low-key.

I'm also admittedly bitter because the Dunkin Donuts in town has a UConn husky logo on it even though it's only a five-minute walk from me. Warriors are there buying coffee every morning, not Huskies.

Religion

Since I'm a public university, I don't have any official religious affiliation. However, I do have the Knight House on campus for all faiths, as well as religiously-affiliated clubs.

Politics

Try not to dwell too much on the fact that I'm a liberal arts college—I don't have any official political affiliations. I'm open-minded to the left and right, I'm not picky.

You should apply to me if...

you'd like a great education on a budget at a school that hosts dance parties, comedians, and concerts every week.
