The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber

The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber

by Ernest Hemingway

Analysis: Steaminess Rating

Exactly how steamy is this story?

PG-13 for adult themes

So there is no "on-screen" sexuality in the story, but it's pretty clear that Margot sneaks off to Wilson's tent and sleeps with him. Really the sex isn't about sex at all. It's about power and punishment. Having sex with other men is Margot's way of humiliating Macomber. Not very steamy, is it?
