The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest

by Stieg Larsson

Torsten Edklinth

Character Analysis

Torsten Edklinth is director of the Constitution Protection Unit (the Unit) of the Secret Police. The Unit makes sure people's constitutional rights aren't violated. They focus on anarchists, neo-Nazis, and anything that looks like it might be a crime of racial or ethnic hatred. Through Edklinth and the Unit, we see that the Security Police (Säpo) is an important part of the Swedish system of government. The Section, we learn, is a tiny, rogue group inside of Säpo devoted to protecting Zalachenko and his secrets. The involvement of Edklinth and the Unit is important to the overall success of Team Salander. The Unit verifies Salander's story as truth and helps make sure all the members of the Section are arrested.
