Character Role Analysis

Roger

Roger is a kitchen boy in Jordan College and Lyra's best friend. His disappearance prompts Lyra to head on her journey to the North. As the book ends, Lord Asriel cruelly severs Roger from his daemon in order to harness enough energy to create a bridge to another world. By unwittingly leading Roger to his death, Lyra fulfills the prophecy that she would be a betrayer.
