Character Role Analysis

Miss Havisham

Whether knowingly or unknowingly, Miss Havisham triggers Pip’s undoing by encouraging a relationship between him and Estella. She puts her guided missile directly in his path, and it’s a direct hit. Pip’s life is forever derailed because of the time spent in her dark rooms. If she had never summoned Pip to Satis House, Pip would never know to want to belong to the society she represents.

Pip

Pip is both our protagonist and, at times, our antagonist as well. He is his own worst enemy, rejecting those who love him most in the hopes of becoming a big shot. He chooses wealth over friendship.
