Professor Pomona Sprout

Character Analysis

Professor Sprout teaches Herbology. She begins teaching the second years how to take care of Mandrake plants, which are magical plants with human-looking roots. Her work takes on new importance when students and cats start getting Petrified, because the only cure to Petrification is a Mandrake Restorative Draught. Professor Snape can only make the Draught once Professor Sprout's Mandrakes are fully mature. Fortunately, she is very good at her job and the Mandrakes mature in time to heal the Petrified students before the end of the school year.
