Olímpico is Macabéa's first and only boyfriend, and boy is he a winner. Um, not. Pretty much everything that he does and everything that comes out of his mouth is ignorant, belligerent, or just plain mean. In fact, our narrator tells us that Olímpico "was wicked to the core" (4.151). But Macabéa is naïve and desperate to be loved, so she tolerates a lot of mistreatment from him—until he quickly leaves her for her co-worker, Glória.
