Character Role Analysis

María Mendoza

María is Matt's only friend in his age group, and the two eventually fall in love. They don't have an easy go of it, though. These star-crossed lovers could give Romeo and Juliet a run for their money. As children, they bicker and fight, and as teenagers, they face a perilous situation that eventually tears them apart. But they reunite in the end, and we couldn't be happier. After all, we have the sneaking suspicion that his love for María may have helped keep Matt going while he endured all those struggles in Aztlán. And we're confident they'll make an awesome team when Matt takes over Opium.
