Character Role Analysis

This is Esperanza's story, through and through. Even when she's describing other characters to us, we feel like we're learning more about Esperanza's personality (and her healthy imagination) than anything else.

Like all good protagonists, Esperanza doesn't stay the same from page one to the end of the book. She develops over the course of the novel, becoming a more mature and self-assured individual.
