The House of the Seven Gables

The House of the Seven Gables

by Nathaniel Hawthorne

Dixey

Character Analysis

Dixey is one of a pair of gossipy men who frequently pass by the House of the Seven Gables. At different points in the novel, Dixey predicts that Hepzibah's shop is going to fail (wrong) and also that Hepzibah and Clifford have probably murdered Judge Pyncheon (also wrong). He is the literal voice of the man on the streets.
