Robert Lowell dedicated his poem "Skunk Hour" to Bishop. Bishop, in turn dedicated her poem "The Armadillo" to him. These poets like their animals. (Lowell's poem; Bishop's poem)

Bishop spent years and years writing her poems. She wrote the poem "The Moose" over the course of more than twenty years (source).

Bishop was close friends with the modernist poet Marianne Moore. Sometimes, Moore would call up Bishop asking for help with rhymes in her poems (source).
