Protagonist

Character Role Analysis

Bert

Bert is at the center of the play's controversy, and is present onstage almost throughout it. He's the one whose fate we care about most, and the one who gets the girl in the end. Even though he doesn't do all the talking—we leave that to the lawyers—he clearly has the most important role in Inherit the Wind; all of the action revolves around him.
