Character Analysis

John is the husband of Jean and friend and neighbor to the Hazes. He handles Charlotte's estate after her death. Unable to deal with the Haze legal "complications" (2.27.4), he leaves the work to an attorney named Jack Windmuller and moves to South America to live with a Spanish girl. He informs Humbert that buyers are interested in the Haze house, the sale of which allows Humbert to give Lolita a large sum of cash.
