The Man in the Iron Mask

The Man in the Iron Mask

by Alexandre Dumas

Monsieur

Character Analysis

The younger brother of King Louis XIV and the husband of Henrietta, Monsieur plays only a very minor role in the novel. It is clear that his marriage to Henrietta is not happy, which is an historical fact. Be careful not to confuse him with Philippe, the twin brother of the King and Man in the Iron Mask, who is imprisoned for the majority of the novel.
