Character Role Analysis

Donald Farfrae

Donald Farfrae is in many ways the opposite of Michael Henchard. He is short and fair-skinned, while Henchard is tall and dark. He is good-humored and quick to forgive, while Henchard is gloomy, quick-tempered, and resentful. And while Henchard's flaws cause him to lose his friends, family, wealth, and position, Farfrae's contrasting good qualities contribute to his rise to power and wealth in the town.
