Guide Mentor

Character Role Analysis

Gaston Cleric

Gaston is Jim's teacher at college, and so he's a natural choice for guide/mentor. Gaston turns Jim onto the greatness of poetry and ancient languages, but the most important thing he does is tear Jim away from the tempting clutches of the lovely Lena Lingard. By getting Jim out of Nebraska and to the East coast, Gaston jump-starts Jim's successful adult life.
