The Negro Speaks of Rivers

The Negro Speaks of Rivers

by Langston Hughes

Analysis: Tough-O-Meter

(3) Base Camp

No question, there is a lot going on in this poem, and there is a lot being said. However, we promise that you will have no problem walking into the middle of it, sitting down, and listening to its rhythms and to the story it is telling you. It’s an inviting poem that wants you to feel the history it unravels. Like a good book or a moving song, we bet you won’t want it to end.
