No Longer At Ease

No Longer At Ease

by Chinua Achebe

Analysis: Steaminess Rating

Exactly how steamy is this story?

Prostitution, sleeping with a forbidden love, abortion…there is sex in No Longer At Ease, but it occurs off-stage. Nevertheless, we do see Clara and Obi talking (or fighting) in bed. We also witness Elsie Marks's offer of sex with Obi in exchange for a promise that Obi will help her appear before the Scholarship Board. Ultimately, Obi does begin to sleep with girls who hope that it will help their chances of getting a scholarship to study in England. But each of these scenes hardly crosses over the line even into PG-13.
