Chicago: City of the Century (2003)

The 1871 fire plays an important part in this episode of the PBS series American Experience. A useful companion site includes a newspaper account of the fire published on October 11, 1871.

In Old Chicago (1937)

Alice Brady won an Oscar for her portrayal of Mrs. O’Leary in this classic film about the 1871 fire. If you like disaster films, you won’t be disappointed. The special effects are ahead of their time, and the fire takes up over a third of the film.
