Strange Meeting

by Wilfred Owen

Analysis: Tough-o-Meter

(8) Snow Line

In these packed 44 lines, Owen really highlights his masterful ability to hint at something without saying it outright. This creates some very exciting tension and suspense for us as readers—as we read, the questions begin to mount: Where is he? If he's in hell, does that mean he's dead? Who is this other guy?—which makes for a seriously edge-of-the-seat read that requires 100% attention and fair amount of detective work, too.
