Tender is the Night Book Three, Chapter Ten Summary

  • Around 2am the phone rings waking both Dick and Nicole. Mary and Caroline have been arrested together and so Dick goes to help them.
  • He comes back and hour later and tells Nicole that Mary and Caroline had dressed up like French sailors and picked up some girls. When they realized Mary and Caroline were not men, they pitched a fit.
  • At the jail it was revealed that one of the women was well connected, though the other was not. So Dick makes Mary and Caroline sound like super VIPs to the police chief, and managed to get them both out by paying him off, and paying off the two other women.
