Mr. Harmon

Character Analysis

Mr. Harmon is a head manager at Durham's meatpacking plant. Even though Jurgis has been blacklisted from working at these plants after attacking Connor, when Jurgis hands Mr. Harmon a note from Mike Scully requesting that he be hired, Mr. Harmon hops to it. Jurgis needs a job at a meatpacking plant where he can meet lots of people, since his job depends on rigging this election for Mike Scully. So Mr. Harmon gets Jurgis a job as a hog-trimmer. Again, we witness the power of influence in this system: if you know the right people, it opens doors for you. Otherwise, you're on your own.
