The Three Musketeers

The Three Musketeers

by Alexandre Dumas

Madame de Chevreuse

Character Analysis

Athos’s mistress and the Queen’s best friend. Although we never see this woman, she plays a pivotal role as the intermediary between the Musketeers and the Queen. Her friendship with the Queen so threatened the Cardinal that he had her exiled to Tours, which is evidence early on in the story that the Cardinal is powerful and ruthless.
