Baby Dreams

  • September 2000 (Clare is 29): Clare is tortured by nightmares about babies.
  • Saturday, September 23, 2000 (Clare is 29, Henry is 37): Clare is pregnant again, this time with a baby boy. She doesn't believe the baby will make it. She walks into her studio and draws her baby's heart.
  • Wednesday, September 27, 2000 (Clare is 29): Clare dreams that her newborn baby boy lies on the bed, quivering. Clare knows that he's born too soon and won't make it: "…it's too soon, it's convulsing… I can see right through him" (2.12.11). The boy disappears. Clare waked up in hospital with Henry. The baby is dead.
