The Time Traveler's Wife Book 3, Chapter 3 Summary

How It All Goes Down

  • Saturday, July 12, 2008 (Clare is 37): Clare arrives at Gomez's house, and waits for Charisse to return from roller-skating with Alba and her kids. When Gomez tells Clare that it's no use waiting for Henry to return, and that she needs to start dating again, she tells him she's simply not interested. But when Gomez starts kissing her, she has sex with him, imagining that she's with Henry. Charisse and the kids almost walk in on them. Clare feels ashamed. "What am I doing? What have I allowed myself to become?" Her mind answers: "You are the traveler now" (3.3.31).
  • Saturday, July 26, 2008 (Clare is 37): Charisse and Clare take the kids out to eat at a restaurant. Clare reveals to Charisse that Henry has returned to see Alba, but not her.
  • Saturday, September 3, 1990 (Henry is 27): After partying, Henry and Ingrid are looking for their car. They're both drunk. Ingrid notices a little girl they saw before they entered the club as well. When Ingrid asks her if she lost her way, the girl says she's fine. She's looking for her dad, but realized she's too early. She points them to their car, though. Henry casts the event off as a strange occurrence.
  • Sunday, July 29, 1979 (Henry is 42): Henry and Alba play in the sand at Lighthouse Beach. People stare at them, because they've both time traveled and are now wearing strange clothes. Alba asks Henry why never visits her Clare. He replies that he would, but that he can't.
