Character Role Analysis

Tristram

The book isn't called The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy for nothing. Although other characters may take center stage for a few (or a lot of) pages, Tristram is always lurking behind the scenes. He's trying to grow up under the shadow of his terrible fate, and it ain't always easy. No matter who else is talking, Tristram is still running the show.
