The Supernatural Quotes in Twilight

How we cite our quotes: (Chapter. Paragraph)

Quote #10

[Bella:] "Okay, then." I glared at him, and continue slowly. "Let's say, hypothetically of course, that…someone…could know what people are thinking, read minds, you know – with a few exceptions." (8.190)

Bella tries to pull the truth out of Edward by walking through each step she knows is true. She seems to be convinced that he has supernatural abilities. Do you think Bella acts in a realistic way upon finding out that Edward has these unique skills?

Quote #11

[Edward to Bella:] "Most of the time I tune it all out – it can be very distracting. And then it's easier to seem normal." (9.14)

Even though Edward is supernatural, he'd prefer to be normal. Or at least seem normal on the surface.

[Bella to Edward:] "About vampires." (9.54)

Bella tells Edward she thinks he is a vampire, but the word itself is hard for her to say.

Quote #12

[Bella:] "Don't laugh – but how can you come out during the daytime?"

[Edward] laughed anyway. "Myth."

"Burned by the sun?"

"Sleeping in coffins?"

"Myth." (9.92-97)

Bella learns that even though vampires exist, that doesn't mean all superstitions are actually true... Edward has fun debunking myths about vampires.
