Waiting for Godot

Waiting for Godot

by Samuel Beckett

Protagonist

Character Role Analysis

Vladimir (and Estragon)

Vladimir and Estragon are the play’s two main characters. The audience doesn’t see anything they don’t, and we’re not privy to any information this pair doesn’t have. Essentially, the viewer experiences the world of Waiting for Godot the same way Vladimir and Estragon do. The reason we’re thinking of Didi as the main protagonist is that we identify more readily with him than we do with Gogo.
