Sergeant Bickle

Character Analysis

Sergeant Bickle is the policeman that Phoebe and Sal visit when they are worried that Phoebe's mom has been kidnapped. Sergeant Bickle doesn't take their suspicions seriously, but instead calls Phoebe's dad to tell him what's up. Over the course of the novel, we learn that Sergeant Bickle is coincidentally the adoptive father of Mike the lunatic. Sal figures this out when she sees a family picture on Sergeant Bickle's desk. We wonder if he'll ever meet Phoebe again.
