War and Peace

by Leo Tolstoy

War and Peace Volume 2, Part 5, Chapter 16 Summary

  • Anatole and Dolokhov are figuring out the plan for abducting Natasha.
  • They have travel documents, transportation, and a fake priest waiting to “marry” them so Natasha doesn’t suspect that she’s just being used.
  • Dolokhov half-heartedly tries to talk Anatole out of it, since he’s already married and everything, and since he’s kind of a gross jerk.
  • But no, Anatole has to have his way.
  • With them is their faithful getaway driver, Balaga, who has apparently been doing this kind of thing for the two of them for a while now.
  • Finally, everything is ready.
